Limp Mode

Limp Mode is a driving survival game with simulation-leaning handling, deep tuning and an OBD diagnostic scanner as its central tool. Cars wear out, leak and fail in ways that can be diagnosed and repaired: when a warning light comes on, the player reads the fault codes to find the failing part, clears them to limp on a little further, or disables systems outright to trade reliability for power. Handling is built on slip-based tire physics, weight transfer and drift behaviour, and the workshop that serves as the player's base includes a proving ground with a track editor for shaking down a build before taking it out. Beyond the solo campaign - a thousand-kilometre drive down the highway to reach the player's grandfather - the game offers drift servers for up to twenty players, with a public server browser and a festival pit lane where players build and decorate their own pit box. Cars are persistent across every mode and keep their condition, damage and odometer reading, with a service history recording every repair. Parts can be stripped from wrecks, and the world persists after a death, so abandoned wrecks and emptied containers stay where they were left. The dead still hold the cities and are dangerous to meet on foot, but they are weather rather than the subject. It can be played solo or in co-op for up to four players.

The player's grandfather was a master mechanic, and the workshop that serves as the player's base was his. When the outbreak began he was on vacation roughly a thousand kilometers down the highway, barricaded in his own holiday house with a workshop behind it. He calls his grandson and asks to be picked up. The grandson knows nothing about cars, so his grandfather teaches him everything over the phone while he drives.
