The tale unfolds in the world of Ephinea, divided among three nations that depend on a mysterious energy called eleth, drawn from great crystals scattered across the land. In the peaceful village of Lhant, three childhood friends, the earnest Asbel Lhant, his younger brother Hubert, and the gentle Cheria Barnes, discover a mysterious amnesiac girl with no memory of her past. Taking her in, they give her the name Sophie and welcome her into their close-knit group. Their quiet lives are brightened further when Richard, the young prince of Windor, arrives in Lhant and befriends them. After Asbel and Sophie save the prince from a sudden assassination attempt, a bond of friendship forms among the children, one that will be tested by the weight of destiny, duty, and the turbulent years to come.
